M&S Recreational Programs
M&S Recreational Programs are for boys and girls between ages of 5 Years old to 14 years old.
Athletes will learn the basis and fundamentals of gymnastics that will
get them to the team or high school level of competition.
BEGINNERS: Ages 5+
- In a beginner class, your child is learning the start of gymnastics and many other things. They learn how to do all 4 events each practice, including tramp. They learn how to sit on a line and listen, and remember each station. Along with working with others and the teacher, your child will be having fun while learning the fundamentals of gymnastics.
Beginners Classes involve the basic's of gymnastics on all of the girls events: Vault, Bars, Beam, and floor. This is the base entry into our classes. Some of the skills include:
Vault: Jumping on a board with 2 feet and straight jump up to a block
Bars: Pull over, cast with hips off of the bar, glide swings, and forward roll dismounts
Beam: Walking across the beam forward and backward, and jumping and turning on the beam
Floor: Cartwheel, handstand, and bridge from a mat
INTERMEDIATE: Ages 5+
- The intermediate class is for perfecting the beginner skills and where they learn more, so they are ready for more advanced skills. There is an emphasis to doing the skills properly, and this will help them in the future with their gymnastics.
Vault: Handstand flatback onto 8 inch mat and pop on-handstand flat back
Bars: Pull over, cast back hip circle, glide swings, and dismounts
Beam: Levers, handstand on low beam, and dismounts
Floor: Back and front walkovers, back handsprings over barrel, roundoffs, and leaps
ADVANCED: Ages 6+
- This class is in the big gym. This is where your child learns their personal strengths with gymnastics. In this program, the conditioning part of this sport comes more into play, the skills of gymnast gets better. We typically see a gymnast in this level for a year or two. The advanced class is the first recreational class that is going into the big gym.
Vault: Run handstand flat back up to a resi
Bars: Glide kips, squat ons, and double back hip circles
Beam: Handstands on high beam, half turns, split jumps, and side handstand dismounts
Floor: Roundoff back extentions, spotted back handspring, leaps, and full turns
MASTERS: Ages 6+
- This class is in preparation of trying out for one of our teams, or gearing them up for a high school program. We will perfect all of the skills needed to be on a competition team. There are many skill in the masters program. Students tend to love this class because they can mix and max their skills on each event.
Vault: Handstand flat back, front handspring over resi, and half ons over a mat
Bars: Glide kips, front hip circles, and squat on jump to high bar
Beam: Cartwheels, backwalkovers, roundoff dismounts, turns, leaps, and jumps
Floor: Front handsprings, roundoff back handsprings, and fly springs
HIGH SCHOOL PREP: Ages 12+
- This class is aimed for athletes in 5th - 7th grade, to help learn more skills before entering the High School Gymnastics arena.
- There are skills that are needed to get onto a team and M&S will help get them there.
- Beginner level through Advanced.
DANCE ACRO: Ages 5+
- This class is for dancers who are wanting to improve their acro skills.
- The class will focus on perfecting the cartwheel, aerials, back and front walkovers, kips, and other acro skills/varations.
- This class will also help with flexibility and strength.
1. Improves Health- Gymnastics for kids can be one of the best ways to get them started healthily including overall strength, coordination, balance, and posture.
2. Social benefits- As one of the most popular sports, kids will love to play with other children. Through this activity, they wil be able to socialize and learn important skills while playing together.
3. Improves Self-Discipline- Preparation is vital in everything that you do. When it comes to gymnastics for kids, there are times that children will be required to follow strict rules, estpecially during training sessions.
4. Cognitive Effect- By participating in gymnastics, children will develop more cognitive skills such as problem solivng and decision making.
5. Fun Factor- Kids will love learning how to flip, swing, tumble, and make them perform stunts they never though possible. There are always other steps to learn in gymnastics, and it is possible to learn something new in every session.
